Overview
Lynn Conway was a computer scientist and electrical engineer whose work helped revolutionize very-large-scale integrated circuit design. With Carver Mead, she developed and taught systematic methods that allowed designers to create complex microchips more efficiently, helping make VLSI design accessible to a much wider research community. Her work influenced semiconductor design, computer architecture, and engineering education. Earlier in her career she also made important contributions to high-performance computer architecture at IBM.
