Overview
Frances Allen was a computer scientist whose work transformed compiler design and program optimization. During a long career at IBM, she developed techniques that allowed compilers to analyze and improve programs automatically, helping computers execute code more efficiently. Her research became foundational to modern optimizing compilers and parallel computing. In 2006 she became the first woman to receive the ACM A.M. Turing Award.
